To Love is To Obey and To Imitate (Part 1)

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

So who is the one that you love the most other than your family?
Would it be your friends?
Would it be your pets?
Would it be your girlfriend/boyfriend?
Or would it be Allah s.w.t and His Messenger s.a.w?

I've asked a lot of people about this,
And most of them would answer their friends, followed by their girlfriends/boyfriends, and of course, a lot of them also mentioned their pets.

But only a few would say Allah and His Messenger s.a.w.

So when I reminded those people who answered other than Allah and His Messenger s.a.w,

"Do you love Allah and His Messenger?"

Most of them would reply with the same generic answer,
"Of course I love them"

"So how do you love them?" I asked.

"Well, I pray 5 times daily, fast in the month of ramadhan, and perform the other 3 pillars of Islam"

So the conversation above is like a template that had been used over and over again.

Yes, performing all the good deeds that Allah s.w.t wants you to do is a part of showing your love towards Allah and His Messenger.

But how can you be so sure, that by doing those deeds, you're good to go?

No you aren't.

If you really love Allah s.w.t and His Messenger, you would also stop doing bad deeds.

"Well, I don't steal or kill"

Of course you aren't.

So what are the examples of bad deeds that you might do daily?

1. Delay the performing of solah. Yes, you performed your solah, but is it right after the azaan? Or is it 10 minutes before the next solah's azaan?

Allah s.w.t had said in the Quran:

So woe unto those performers of solah (hypocrites), Who delay their solah from the stated fixed times.(Al Ma'un : 4-5)

2. Telling bad stories about other people, whether it is true or not.
We often badmouth other people in our daily life. The mass media had come to a better term of this which is; gossiping. It doesn't matter whether you're telling the truth or lies but as long as you're telling other people about how bad someone is, you are the people mentioned by Allah s.w.t as the people who eat their brothers' dead flesh.

Allah s.w.t had said in the Quran:

O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would you like to eat the flesh of his own dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the one Who accepts repentance, most merciful. (Al-Hujraat : 12)

3. Being alone with a woman/man that is not your wife/husband.

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w had once said:

Not a man and woman together, for the third is the devil (Riwayah Imam Ahmad)

So if you have a boyfriend/girlfriend and always contacted him/her through any means (e.g SMS, call, video call, out for a date), verily there is the devil (shaytaan) in between of you and your lover.

Okay, enough of the bad deeds ... (to be continued)
